About

How do your Chess Nights work?

We’re not a tournament or an official chess organization. Our Chess Nights are just a fun way to meet new people and practice our chess skills. We’ll randomly match you up with another player based on your self-assessed skill level. We provide the space, the time, the chess boards, and the opponents, we just need you!

What if I’m not one of the first 20 people?

Unfortunately we have limited seating and chess boards so we can only guarantee the first 20 RSVPs will definitely play. If someone can’t make it we’ll reach out to our list of sign ups in chronological order to find someone who can make it. All are welcome to come hangout and watch the chess matches even if you didn’t get a spot. After the first matches are done players can choose to rematch, play another opponent, or give their board up to two people waiting.

Who runs the Chess Nights?

We’re just a group of downtown professionals who wanted to create a space for people to play chess against new opponents. Our team consists of volunteers from the 315 Gas Guyz team, Syracuse Digital Marketing, and the space is provided by Parthenon Books.

How do I sign up?

Head over to our event RSVP form so we can get to know a little bit more about you. Can’t make the date/time of our next event? Fill out the form and just check “I can’t attend this event” so we can reach out to you about our next event.

What do I win?

As stated, this isn’t a tournament so there’s no prize for winning. Chess matches can take a long time so some players may need the full 2 hours to finish their game, meaning we’ll likely have about 10 winners. We are open to local businesses who want to donate a door prize for us to randomly raffle off; if that’s you, you can contact us to coordinate.
